This Olympian Gold Medalist Treats Her Injuries With Cheese

This year’s Winter Olympics is just a few months away and winter sports fan simply cannot just wait. The much-anticipated Winter Olympics will be held in South Korea this time around and will begin in February next year. However, before that the 78th World Cup already began and skier Lindsey Vonn managed to snag her very first win of the season.

78th WORLD CUP FIRST VICTORY

The 33-year-old two Time Olympian medalist got her very first win just last Saturday for the 78th World Cup and this is actually her first time winning since January from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen. When asked why it took her some time to win, the four-time World Cup winner just said that she had some bad luck when it comes to the first few races of the season last January but then skiing has always been her passion and that it’s time to move on from and just continue to do what she loves and do extremely well at it. Vonn also said that her self-confidence will always be there and she will just continue to find her momentum to win as much this time around to get back on track.

Last Saturday, she actually managed to her first win of the season and she admitted that she almost crashed at the end but managed to pull through. Vonn raised both of her arms knowing that she won. It was such a close fight since she clocked in 1 minute and 4.86 seconds whereas her opponents Sofia Goggia from Italy and Ragnhild Mowinckel from Norway weren’t even a second behind her. This is such a joy for Vonn since this is the first time her father actually watched her in action.

It was such a relief though since she actually hurt her back in the super-G in Switzerland after finishing 24th, but it obviously didn’t get to her since she managed to snag the first place this time around.

VONN ON REPRESENTING THE U.S. BUT NOT TRUMP

In an interview with CNN last 7th of December 2017, World Cup and Olympic gold-medalist Lindsey Vonn said that she is indeed taking the Olympics very seriously at all times and she respects everything about what it means and what it exactly represents especially when walking the flag of her country, which is why she would feel honored to represent her country once more since people from the government seems to be not doing a good job doing it. This controversial statement definitely put her on the trending list, she even had to say so herself that she is willing to represent her people and the entire United States but wouldn’t be representing the president.

As I head to France for the next races, I would like to share with you my reflections from the past few days. I've received a tremendous amount of feedback, both positive and negative, about my recent CNN interview. The point that I was trying to articulate is that all Olympic athletes represent their nation as a whole, and are not representatives of their government or any specific political figure or party. None of us work tirelessly for years on end to compete in the Olympics on behalf of Democrats or Republicans. The Olympics are a non-political event, a chance for everyone to put aside their differences and be on the same "team.". That does not mean that Olympic athletes don't have political opinions. As an American, I am extremely proud that our great nation was founded on principals and ideals where citizens can express our opinions openly. It is a privilege that some others around the world don't have. I am proud to be an American, and I want our country to continue to be a symbol of hope, compassion, inclusion and world unity. My travels around the world have recently made clear that this is no longer how people view the United States. You cannot pick up a newspaper or turn on the TV in Europe without noticing how people are questioning our direction. It seems to me that we must lead with understanding and strive for unity in our relationships throughout the world. As for myself, my recent comments opened up my eyes as to how divided we are right now. It is hurtful to read comments where people are hoping I break my neck or that God is punishing me for being "anti-Trump." We need to find a way to put aside our differences and find common ground in communicating. Is it wrong to hope for a better world? All of this is much bigger than skiing and the Olympics. I am going to take the next two months to focus on what I can do and right now that is competing for my country. In doing that, I will be hoping that we Americans can still be that "shining city on a hill."

Then again, she is not the only athlete who does not want anything to do with U.S. President Donald Trump. Vonn also mentioned that she would definitely decline if ever she gets invited to the White House after winning. But because of this statements that she made during her interview, a lot of people actually pat her back on social media for standing up for what she believes, then again, she of course got some snide comments from Trump supporters, and some of them were glad that she actually hurt her back and wishes for her to lose and break other parts of her body while skiing. And because of this, she released another statement on her official Instagram account saying how she could actually see how divided her country is and wishes that people of America would just continue to be a symbol of hope and unity and not let politics get into the way.

VONN’S CHEESE TREATMENT

Despite this controversy, she still proved that she is indeed one of a kind. No matter how many criticisms she gets for standing up for what she believed in, she will continue to be such an inspiration to her people. However, there is one more thing that totally surprised everyone and that is when she posted an Instagram story wherein she is using cheese to treat her injuries. Yes, you read it right, she uses cheese.

The 33-year-old skier captioned her post as “cheese therapy”, which made people wonder if this actually works. According to exercise physiologist Michele Olson from the University of Alabama, there is actually no scientific evidence that cheese or any dairy product could help a bruise or injury. Consuming it may have some anti-inflammatory benefits but directly applying it to a bruise or an injury is something that no one could explain. The skier, however, believes that the anti-inflammatory properties of an Austrian cured cheese have been her go-to whenever she is injured and has been doing it for the past couple of years.
