Why Ozzy Osbourne Didn’t Believe His Son’s Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis

Ozzy Osbourne. Just the mention of his name sends shivers down your spine, doesn’t it? After all he is a legendary artist whose vocals have hit the airwaves for decades, much to the delight of heavy metal fans. The English vocalist has etched his name in history with his unmatched talent, and it is reasonably safe to say that he will never be forgotten.

Not My Son!

Despite the artist’s success, however, life has thrown him a few curveballs. His son, who’s now 33, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age of 26. At first, Ozzy was adamant that the professionals had misdiagnosed his son.

Jack Osbourne, the son, speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle revealed that Ozzy was insistent that the doctors were still facing similar challenges to those present in the ‘90s. Back then, the rock star had received an MS misdiagnosis, and therefore he hoped that the same would happen to his son.

According to Jack, his mom, Sharon Osbourne, has a hard time processing the bad news. Back in 2012, she reported that when she first heard about the diagnosis, she was utterly shocked and engulfed in sadness. Still, she was proud of her son for being the strong one and handling the whole situation with more bravely than everyone else in the family, even though he was the one suffering from the debilitating disease.

Nonetheless, Jack’s strength doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have demons of his own. While still at the Yahoo interview, he confessed to having dealt with depression ever since his diagnosis. He described it as being a prevalent condition, weighing him down on him frequently.

Whenever he goes to sleep, he is ever hoping that he will not wake up to MS-induced complications. According to the media personality, the mental anguish MS patients suffer is not widely discussed, and he feels that this should change.

Heaven Sent Kids

Last year, Jack poured his heart out during a PEOPLE interview, revealing how his kids get him through episodes of profound depression and help him see the light again. The Brit-American is a father of three children, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Lisa Stelly. The eldest, Pearl Clementine, is six, while the other two, Andy Rose, and Minnie Theodora, are three and one respectively.

Whenever he’s having an episode of depression, he almost instantly finds a distraction, whether it is in the form of soothing his youngest, or remembering to pick up the older kids from school. In other words, his children are like guardian angels, sent to be on the lookout for their dad.

For his part, Jack has made it his mission not to allow the disease to dictate the way he leads his life. He is ever active, to the point that his friends often forget that he has an immune system disorder.

Much as he does this for himself, Jack hopes that his story will serve as an inspiration to others who are in a condition similar to his. He is, however, conscious that a time may come when it won’t be possible for him to go out and engage in his favorite pastimes. When that time comes, he will be ready for it. As for now, he’s living his life to the fullest.
