Shocking Reason why Women are Lured into Unnecessary Surgeries
Marketing companies have a new group of victims in their proverbial crosshair: women who have recently undergone a surgery and are prime targets for exploitation by using their private medical records.
One such patient, Jerri Plummer, recounts a phone call from a stranger who warned her that her life might be in danger following due to the faulty mesh transplant she had recently received. The voice on the other side of the line urged Jerri to undergo a surgery to remove the mesh implant which could lead to her death if left inside her body.
Marketers, Lawyers and Banks Brewing up a Medical Storm
This is one example of thousands of cases where women have been coaxed into unnecessary mesh removal surgeries using scare tactics and promises of monetary rewards. These victims are promised that the cost of their surgeries would eventually be reimbursed from legal lawsuits that would be filed against mesh manufacturers.
This scheme is drawn up by lawyers who have been building cases against medical manufacturers and need patients that fit the profile of viable plaintiffs that could prove to be lucrative in legal battles. To find women who’ve had mesh implant surgery and coax them into suing the manufacturing companies, lawyers turn to marketing companies which in turn reach out to finance companies to fund the expensive surgery procedures with high interest loans that are eventually repaid from the lawsuit settlements.
The marketing companies then sift through patients’ medical records to find women who have recently undergone vaginal mesh surgery and offer them medical consultation and surgery to remove the mesh by insinuating that the mesh is medically unfit and could lead to serious health issues. If the litigation process is successful, the lawyers, marketing firms and banks enjoy huge profits, but at the cost of the women who often face numerous medical problems and even undergo additional surgeries to have the mesh reinserted.
Exploiting Vulnerable Women
The mesh implants surgery is used to fix a medical condition known as pelvic organ prolapse whereby a woman’s pelvic muscles are weakened and are unable to support the weight of her internal organs. The result is an increase in pressure exerted on her pelvis which leads to urinary incontinence.
To date, millions of women have undergone this medical procedure but in recent years, complications in medical procedures began to surface which include major pain and bleeding. Manufacturers had to financially compensate the patients and plaintiffs with billions of dollars which led to lawyers and financing firms recognizing a niche that could be exploited to generated immense profits at the expense of medical manufacturers and patients involved.
The patients believe that their privacy was compromised when marketing companies were able to access their medical history and were able to contact patients using their private medical records. These companies would then fly the women to Florida or Georgia where they would be provided with motel accommodation and walk in clinics services.
Curiously enough, the majority of these women were unable to seek the opinion of their personal physician because they believe they were rushed into making a decision and told that their lives were in danger, clouding their judgment and invoking a feeling of urgency over rationality.
Irreversible Damage
Many of the women involved in this scheme believe that they have been exploited twice, first by the company manufacturing the mesh and later by lawyers and doctors who goaded them into undergoing the removal surgeries which have been deemed unnecessary in a majority of the cases.
In the case of Jerri Plummer, she began to develop complications following her removal procedure with swollen legs and a seized stomach which prompted her to seek the opinion of her physician who informed her that the damage done was extremely serious and irreversible.
The surgery left Jerri with swollen limbs and a medical condition known as chronic incontinence which compels her to wear diapers all day and unable to leave the house. Jerri is one of the hundreds of thousands of women who have come forward citing exploitation in the industry with unnecessary surgeries which have changed their lives forever.
