After 2 Life-Threatening Brain Aneurysms, Emilia Clarke FINALLY Has Good News for Fans!
Last month, Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke revealed that throughout the course of filming the series, she had suffered two aneurysms. Thankfully, she survived through both of them, much to the delight of her show’s fans.
A lot does happen behind the scenes, doesn’t it? Could you even imagine that Emilia was so sick at one point during the filming of GoT that she almost thought that she’d die? Neither did we!
And the fact that she plays the formidable Daenerys Targaryen on the show, she couldn’t let anyone in on the “secret” until she wrapped up filming.
It’s safe to assume that Clarke has already come to terms with both ordeals, no wonder she decided to make the news public.
Images and Interviews
And now, she has even gone to the extent of revealing images of herself after both surgeries, in addition to talking about it in interviews. When she did come out with the aneurysm news last month, it was via a New Yorker essay. She’s now comfortable enough to actually talk about it on screen.
Obviously, the information shared in her CBS interview would be more or less the same as what was in her essay. Speaking of her first aneurysm, Emilia recalled that it happened in the second month of 2011.
She was working out when she suddenly felt excruciating pain in her head. The headache was so intense that she couldn’t even move her limbs. That was when the realization that her brain was getting damaged came to her.
This first ordeal was a case of subarachnoid hemorrhage – bleeding in the space between tissue covering the brain and the brain itself. In what can only be described as a miracle, Emilia was back on set just one and a half months later.
The second unfortunate experience came in 2013, one that was almost fatal. As the actress describes it, a tiny part of her brain actually died due to lack of blood supply. She had a funny way of putting it, saying that her brain short-circuited.
With this second stroke, Emilia was afraid that she may have lost some cognitive abilities, and that it would mean the end of her acting career. The actress says that she lives for her acting days, and she would be lost without her career.
As you can tell, this second case was a bit more complex than the first one. Its surgery was also a whole different ball game, and it took a toll on Emilia’s recovery time. It wore her down physically, mentally, and she found it a lot harder to see any light at the end of the tunnel.
Dany to the Rescue
However, Emilia Clarke says that playing Daenerys was a huge boost towards her recovery journey. GoT fans (and if you’re not one, you must be from Mars) understand the depth of this statement proving that Dany is as strong as we know her from the show. The actress says that portraying a seemingly invincible character made her forget about her mortality.
Currently, Emilia affirms that she has a clean bill of health, and has even moved on to a new venture – neurorehabilitation through her SameYou charity. Having suffered two strokes, we understand how such a cause may interest her.
