Trump Asked Bill Gates – Twice – If HIV and HPV Were the Same Thing

When Donald Trump first became president, he admitted in front of national television that ‘no one ever thought that healthcare could be so complex.’ Although he was talking about health insurance at the time, Bill Gates’ accusation against the president in a recent interview convinced everyone that Trump’s knowledge on life-threatening viral diseases like HIV and HPV is just as limited as it is on healthcare issues.

During a meeting with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s employees, Bill Gates said that Trump asked him twice if HIV and HPV were the same disease

Asking the Same Question Twice

In a video that recently surfaced on the internet, founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, revealed that he had met Donald Trump twice to discuss issues in healthcare, education, global poverty and technological innovation but one of Trump’s questions that stood out to Gates was when he asked if there was a difference between HIV and HPV. According to the chairman of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Trump had asked him the same question both times when the two met and Gates schooled the President on the difference between the two deadly diseases.

Bill Gates made the shocking claim during a recent meeting with staff members of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation while the billionaire philanthropist and tech entrepreneur was answering questions asked by staff members in the audience. When asked about his relationship with Trump, Gates hardly had any fond memories from the two meetings he had with the US President in the past.

He revealed that Trump didn’t know the difference between HIV and HPV the first time he met him, and even after explaining the two diseases, the President still failed to understand and asked Gates the same question once again when the two met for the second time.

The Microsoft co-founder also said that Trump mostly talked about his daughter’s physical appearance

Trump’s Focus on Gates’ Daughter’s Appearance

The Microsoft co-founder also said that most of the conversation with the president was focused on Gates’ young daughter and he was a little unsettled by the fact that Trump talked so much about her looks. The footage from the meeting was captured by one of the staff members and broadcasted on MSNBC’s show called All In with Chris Hayes.

In the footage, Gates explained the staff members that his 22-year-old daughter had first encountered Trump in Florida during a horse show and the President made a grand entrance with a helicopter in the same venue 20 minutes after seeing Gate’s young daughter.

After the brief encounter between his daughter and Trump, Bill Gates met the president in person for the first time in 2016 and he quickly steered the conversation away from the important global issues like healthcare and education, and started commenting on the appearance of Gates’ daughter. The philanthropist revealed that his wife, Melinda, didn’t like the way Trump talked about their daughter but she was careful not to show her discomfort during the meeting.

Trump also asked Gates if he thought that vaccines can cause bad side effects and should be banned from use

So, What’s the Difference?

The two powerful men met once again last year in March where Trump asked Gates once again if HIV and HPV were the same disease. During the second meeting Trump also asked the entrepreneur about his thoughts of vaccines. The president said that he had been advised by Robert Kennedy Jr that vaccination could have deadly consequences which is why he was looking into getting them banned. Gates advised him that that vaccines actually prevent bad things from happening to people – not cause them.

It seems like the President isn’t the only one confused about the difference between HIV and HPV. The National Health Services also explains the difference in the FAQ section of their website. It says that HPV, which stands for Human papilloma virus, commonly affects the skin moist membranes, causing symptoms like cervical cell changes, genital warts and verrucas. On the other hand, HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) affects the immune system and causes AIDs, which makes patients more susceptible to catching opportunistic infections, although people who seek early treatment for HIV can get cured.

While recalling his meeting with the President, Gates said that he found it extremely bizarre when Trump referred to himself in third person. After seeing the humous clip from Gates’ meeting, Hayes said that he tried to contact the billionaire’s foundation for comments but hasn’t heard back from anyone yet.
